Tiruvasakam

Tiruvasakam is a collection of Tamil hymns composed by the 9th-century Shaivite saint Manikkavacakar. It is considered one of the most important works within the Shaiva Siddhanta tradition and a part of the larger canon known as the Tirumurai. The Tiruvasakam contains fifty-one hymns, each with its own distinct title and meter. The poems are characterized by their intense devotion, emotional depth, and philosophical insights into the nature of God, the soul, and the path to liberation.

Manikkavacakar, a minister in the Pandyan kingdom, experienced a profound spiritual awakening and renounced his worldly life to dedicate himself to the worship of Lord Shiva. The Tiruvasakam is believed to be a record of his spiritual journey, his struggles, his ecstasies, and his ultimate surrender to the divine. The language used in Tiruvasakam is rich and evocative, employing vivid imagery and metaphors to convey complex spiritual concepts.
