Tiravanija

Rirkrit Tiravanija is a Thai conceptual artist born in 1961. He is known for his large-scale installations that often involve communal dining and social interaction, blurring the lines between art and everyday life. Tiravanija's work frequently questions traditional notions of the art object and the role of the viewer, emphasizing experience and participation over passive observation. He rose to prominence in the 1990s with his seminal piece "Untitled (Free)" (1992), where he cooked and served Thai curry to visitors in a New York gallery. This and similar projects, like "Pad Thai" (1990) and "Still" (1997), transformed exhibition spaces into temporary kitchens and social hubs.
