Tiigu

Tiigu is a small village located in the northern region of the Republic of Chad. It is situated approximately 150 kilometers north of the capital city, N'Djamena. The village is primarily inhabited by the Sara people, who are known for their semi-nomadic lifestyle and their traditional way of life. Tiigu is characterized by its sparse population and its reliance on agriculture and livestock for sustenance. The village is home to a few basic amenities, including a small school and a health center, which serve the needs of the local community.

The climate in Tiigu is arid, with hot temperatures throughout the year. The village experiences two distinct seasons: a wet season from June to September, and a dry season from October to May. The wet season brings some relief from the heat, but it also increases the risk of waterborne diseases. The dry season is characterized by dust storms and sandstorms, which can be quite hazardous.

Tiigu is connected to the rest of the country by a network of dirt roads, which are often impassable during the rainy season. The village is also served by a small airstrip, which is used for emergency medical evacuations and for transporting goods and people to and from N'Djamena.

The economy of Tiigu is largely based on subsistence farming, with crops such as millet, sorghum, and groundnuts being the main staples. Livestock, including cattle, goats, and sheep, are also raised for meat and milk. In recent years, there has been a growing interest in developing alternative income sources, such as small-scale trading and remittances from expatriate Sara people living abroad.

Despite its remote location and limited resources, Tiigu has a strong sense of community and resilience. The villagers are known for their hospitality and their ability to adapt to the challenges of living in a harsh environment. The village is also home to a number of cultural traditions and customs, which are passed down through generations and help to maintain a sense of identity and belonging among the Sara people.
