Tigranocerta
Tigranocerta, meaning “City of Tigranes,” was the capital of the ancient Armenian kingdom during the reign of King Tigranes II the Great (roughly 95–55 BCE). It was founded as a new, planned capital in the mid-to-late 1st century BCE to consolidate Tigranes’s expanding realm and to project imperial power across Mesopotamia and the Armenian Highlands.
