Tiedonsiirtopäätelaite, often translated as data terminal equipment (DTE), refers to a device that serves as a user interface or endpoint for communication networks. It is the part of a communication system that initiates, processes, or receives data. Examples of tiedonsiirtopäätelaite include computers, smartphones, printers, and modems when they are connected to a network.

The primary function of a tiedonsiirtopäätelaite is to convert data into a format suitable for transmission over a network and to convert received data back into a usable format for the end-user or application.
