Tidslikhet

Tidslikhet is a Norwegian term that denotes equality or equivalence of time intervals. In scholarly and technical contexts it refers to the idea that two spans of time have the same duration when measured by a given clock or metric. The concept appears in philosophy, physics, and applied disciplines.

Etymology: tidslikhet combines tids (time) and likhet (equality). In Norwegian usage it is used to discuss temporal comparison, clock pacing, and the legitimacy of duration measurements across contexts.

In the philosophy of time, tidslikhet concerns the relation between temporal intervals. Philosophers ask under what conditions two durations should be considered equal, whether such equality is objective or depends on the chosen metric and units, and how it relates to subjective experiences of time.

In physics, the notion interacts with the measurement of time in relativity. Proper time along a worldline is invariant; two intervals may be tidslik in a given frame only under specific transformations. In general, observers in relative motion disagree on durations due to time dilation, which challenges universal tidslikhet.

Applications include scheduling, resource planning, and synchronization tasks, where ensuring equal durations can be desirable. Limitations include dependence on clock calibration, unit choice, and reference frame, making tidslikhet context-dependent rather than absolute.
