Thyria is a coastal city-state in the northern archipelago of the fictional continent of Namaris. It has long been a maritime hub and cultural center, known for its harbor, guilds, and scholarship.

Geography and climate: The city sits in a natural harbor ringed by limestone cliffs, with a delta and surrounding olive groves in the hinterland. The climate is temperate, with wet winters and dry summers, conditions conducive to seafaring and agriculture.

History: Thyria began as a cluster of trader villages in the early Iron Age and grew through regional commerce. It endured periods of domination by larger empires but retained its commercial institutions and customary laws. In the medieval period of the setting, Thyria joined the Confederation of Namaris, maintaining substantial autonomy within the federation.

Government: The city is governed as a constitutional oligarchy. A magistrate known as the Archon is elected by the Council, a body drawn from the principal merchant guilds, and legislation requires broad consensus among major civic bodies to balance commerce with public welfare.

Economy: The economy centers on shipping, shipbuilding, textiles, pottery, wine, and olive oil. The harbor handles regional and long-distance trade, supported by quays, warehouses, and a modest customs administration to facilitate exchange.

Culture and sites: Thyrians speak Thyrish, a language with maritime loanwords, and practice a polytheistic religion focused on sea and sun deities. The Sea Gate festival is a major annual celebration. Notable sites include the Harbor of Seven Rocks, the Temple of the Sea Gate, and the Marble Library.

Demographics: The resident population is estimated at 45,000 to 60,000, comprising merchants, artisans, sailors, and farmers.
