Thrans

Thrans is a sovereign state and archipelago nation in the northern part of Eldara. It comprises more than a dozen inhabited islands, with Thran Prime hosting the capital. The terrain ranges from rugged highlands to coastal plains, and the surrounding sea features bays and reefs. The climate is temperate and maritime, with mild summers and wet winters. The principal port and hub is Valenport on Thran Prime’s eastern shore.

History: Human settlement on the islands dates to the late medieval period. Thrans gained de facto independence in the 18th century after a regional conflict and formal sovereignty in 1824. During the 20th century it joined regional trade blocs and pursued diversified development, balancing fisheries, manufacturing, and services. A new constitution was adopted in 1990, establishing civil liberties and the rule of law.

Government and politics: Thrans operates as a constitutional republic with a president as head of state and a prime minister as head of government. The unicameral National Assembly has 120 seats allocated by proportional representation. The judiciary is independent, and the constitution guarantees civil liberties and regional language rights.

Economy and infrastructure: The economy is mixed, with fisheries, aquaculture, tourism, light manufacturing, and information services as major sectors. The currency is the thran crown (TC). The country maintains a network of ports, including Valenport and Northshore, and an international airport in Valenport. Energy derives from hydropower, wind, and biomass. Education is compulsory through age 16, and universities operate in several cities.

Demographics and culture: Approximately 2.8 million people live in Thrans. The official language is Thran; minority communities speak Eren and Kestik languages. The culture emphasizes maritime heritage, crafts, and literature, with annual festivals such as Sea Lanterns and Founders’ Day. Notable sites include the Old Fortress of Norin and the cliffside city of Valenport.
