Thetford is a market town and civil parish in the Breckland district of Norfolk, England. It is situated on the River Thet, which flows into the River Little Ouse. The town is located approximately 30 miles (48 km) southeast of Norwich and 8 miles (13 km) northwest of Bury St Edmunds. Historically, Thetford has a significant past, serving as the capital of the Anglo-Saxon Kingdom of East Anglia. Evidence of its ancient roots can be found in the ruins of its priory and the Thetford Castle, a motte-and-bailey fortification.
