Texturised

Texturised (British English) or texturized (American English) is an adjective describing something that has been given, or possesses, a texture or textured surface. It can refer to a physical alteration of a material's surface, or to the characteristic texture of a material. The term derives from texturise/texturize and the noun texture.

In manufacturing and materials science, texturising is used to create grip, reduce wear, improve adhesion, or influence optical appearance. Texturised metal surfaces are produced by processes such as stamping, engraving, shot peening, or abrasive texturing, and are common in automotive parts, cookware, fasteners, or tooling. In plastics and ceramics, texturised finishes produce decorative or functional patterns that enhance bonding with coatings, reduce glare, or affect friction.

In textiles, texturised yarns or fabrics are produced by methods such as air-jet texturing, false twist, or knit/de-knit to add bulk, elasticity, and warmth. In food, texturised vegetable protein (often abbreviated TVP) and texturised soy protein are processed to resemble meat, providing fibrous texture for vegetarian and vegan dishes.

The term is largely descriptive; the definition of "texture" varies by field, and "texturised" does not imply a single standard; the intended outcome is determined by the processing method.
