Testplanen

Testplanen is the term used in several Scandinavian contexts for the document that outlines the strategy and plan for testing activities within a project. It describes what will be tested, how testing will be performed, who is responsible, and when testing will occur. The purpose is to align stakeholders, guide execution, and provide a reference for assessing whether the product meets its requirements and quality goals.

Testplanen typically identifies the project scope and objectives, the items and features to be tested (as well as those that are excluded), and the testing levels to be used, such as unit, integration, system, and acceptance testing. It specifies the testing approach, environments, data needs, tools, and the entry and exit criteria for testing. It also covers roles and responsibilities, schedule, resource requirements, risk mitigation, test deliverables, defect management, and configuration control.

In practice, Testplanen is a living document that should be updated as the project evolves. It is usually derived from the project requirements and the overarching test strategy, and is often linked to a master test plan in larger programs or to subproject plans. In agile settings, teams may adopt a lighter version that stays flexible and is revised at key milestones or iterations.

Standards and governance: organizations commonly align test planning with recognized guidelines such as IEEE 829 (test documentation) or ISO/IEC/IEEE 29119, though application varies. The document supports traceability, quality metrics, and decision making by detailing criteria for starting and stopping testing, coverage goals, and the anticipated tests and deliverables.
