Testikattuvus is a Finnish term that translates to "test coverage" in English. It refers to a measurement used in software development to quantify the extent to which the source code of a program has been tested. High test coverage indicates that a significant portion of the code has been executed by tests, while low coverage suggests that many parts of the code remain untested.

The primary goal of achieving good test coverage is to increase confidence in the quality and reliability of the software. By running tests against various parts of the codebase, developers aim to identify and fix bugs early in the development cycle. Different types of test coverage exist, including statement coverage, branch coverage, and path coverage, each measuring a different aspect of code execution.

While a high percentage of test coverage is generally desirable, it is not a guarantee of bug-free software. Certain types of errors, such as logical flaws or race conditions, might not be detected even with comprehensive coverage. Therefore, test coverage should be used as a metric to guide testing efforts and identify areas that require more attention, rather than as an absolute measure of quality.
