Teleskooppi

Teleskooppi, or telescope, is an optical instrument designed to make distant objects appear closer. It is used in astronomy and various other fields to observe objects that are too far away to be seen with the naked eye. The basic design of a telescope consists of an arrangement of lenses or mirrors that collect and focus light from distant objects, making them appear magnified.

The first telescopes were refracting telescopes, which use lenses to bend and focus light. The refracting telescope design was later improved by Johannes Kepler and Isaac Newton, who introduced the reflecting telescope, which uses mirrors instead of lenses to reflect and focus light.

Telescopes are used to observe a wide range of celestial objects, including stars, planets, galaxies, and nebulae. They can also be used to study the Earth's atmosphere and other planets in our solar system. Modern telescopes are often large and complex, with advanced technologies such as adaptive optics and interferometry to improve image quality and resolution.
