Telefonkontakter are digital records used by mobile devices and contact management applications to store information about people and organizations with whom the user communicates. Each entry typically includes fields such as name, one or more phone numbers, email addresses, a postal address, a company or job title, a birthday, notes and a profile photo. They enable quick calling, messaging, and sharing details with others.

Contacts can be stored in different places: locally on the device memory, on a SIM card, or in cloud services linked to an account. Local storage allows offline access, while cloud storage provides synchronization across multiple devices and platforms. Common data formats and standards for exchange include vCard (VCF) and CardDAV, which support fields such as name, phone, email, address and notes, and are used for importing, exporting and syncing.

Management and synchronization aim to keep entries consistent across devices. Synchronization services (for example CardDAV, Exchange ActiveSync) update entries in real time or on login, and applications may offer deduplication and merging tools. Users may export backups of their contacts as VCF files for portability.

Privacy and security considerations include granting appropriate app permissions, protecting access with device authentication, and ensuring backups are secure. Cloud-based contact data should be subject to applicable privacy regulations and account controls, with options to review sharing and delete information. Backup and recovery strategies are recommended to prevent data loss.
