Teksturene

Teksturene is the plural form of texture in Norwegian, referring to the surface qualities of materials and images that can be perceived by touch or sight. The term encompasses tactile textures, such as roughness, grain, and pattern on a physical surface, as well as visual textures, which are patterns or surface details perceived visually and may be simulated in media.

In art and design, textures contribute to materiality, mood, and realism. They help convey the character of a material—wood, fabric, metal, or stone—and influence how a work is perceived and interacted with. Artists employ brushwork, layering, patination, or digital techniques to create textured effects, while designers use patterns, textures, and textures-inspired imagery to add depth and tactility to products and interfaces.

In computer graphics and digital media, texture mapping applies two-dimensional image data to three-dimensional models to simulate surface detail without increasing geometric complexity. In geology, the concept describes the preferred orientation of minerals or crystals, which affects the physical behavior of rocks and soils.
