Tehuantepec

Tehuantepec is a city and the municipal seat of the municipality of Tehuantepec in the Mexican state of Oaxaca. It lies on the Pacific coast at the mouth of the Tehuantepec River, within the Istmo de Tehuantepec region. The city serves as the administrative and economic center for the Istmo.

The area has a long Indigenous history, with Zapotec heritage dating to pre-Columbian times and coastal Huave communities nearby.
