Teetööstusel refers to the tea industry. This sector encompasses the cultivation, harvesting, processing, manufacturing, packaging, and distribution of tea leaves and their derived products. Tea is one of the most widely consumed beverages globally, second only to water. The industry is a significant source of employment and revenue for many countries, particularly in Asia, where tea cultivation has a long and rich history.

The process begins with tea plantations where tea bushes, primarily of the Camellia sinensis plant, are grown. Different varieties of tea, such as black, green, white, oolong, and pu-erh, are produced through various oxidation and processing methods. Harvesting is often done by hand to ensure the quality of the leaves. After plucking, the leaves undergo wilting, rolling, oxidation (or lack thereof for green and white teas), and drying.

The global tea market is diverse, with established players and emerging markets. Key producing countries include China, India, Kenya, Sri Lanka, and Vietnam. Major importing countries are widespread, with significant consumption in the United Kingdom, Russia, the United States, and Pakistan. The industry faces challenges such as climate change, fluctuating commodity prices, labor issues, and the need for sustainable practices. Innovations in processing technology, new product development, and a growing consumer interest in health benefits and ethically sourced tea continue to shape the teetööstusel.
