Taytit

Taytit is a fictional mineral term used in worldbuilding, speculative science, and some science-fiction narratives. It is not a real mineral recognized by geological authorities, but it serves as a placeholder material in discussions of advanced materials.

In most depictions, taytit is described as a rare, highly refractory mineral with exceptionally high hardness and thermal stability. Authors vary its exact composition, but common traits include a high melting point, resistance to chemical attack, and a distinctive iridescent or metallic luster. Some sources attribute electrical or magnetic properties, while others emphasize mechanical strength and light-weight performance. Because taytit appears in many independent works, its precise properties are intentionally inconsistent and adaptable to plot needs.

Within fictional worlds, taytit is said to form under extreme pressure and temperature conditions, typically in the deep crust or mantle, or on alien basaltic planets. It is often described as forming from complex intergrowths of transition-metal oxides or sulfides, though the specific chemistry varies by author.
