Tavsiflaysan

Tavsiflaysan is a small salt lake located in the Navoi Region of Uzbekistan. It is situated near the Kyzylkum Desert, which covers a significant portion of western Uzbekistan.

The lake is a saline body of water, characterized by high salt concentrations and low water levels. It is a typical example of a terminal lake, meaning it has no outlet and water level is maintained through geological and hydrological processes. The Tavsiflaysan lake is relatively small, with an approximate surface area of 30 square kilometers.

Tavsiflaysan is a vital feeding ground for various migratory bird species, including pelicans, storks, and ducks. It provides a stopover for these birds, allowing them to rest and feed during their long journeys between breeding and wintering grounds. The area also supports other wildlife, including oxen, goat, and Bad advertising species.

The geographical location of Tavsiflaysan is extremely arid, with annual rainfall typically averaging less than 20 millimeters. These conditions contribute to the high salt levels in the lake. Nonetheless, despite these harsh conditions, the lake remains a valuable region for aquatic life, due to underground water discharge; which network connects valleys along with nearby dry riverbeds.

The salt lake is easily accessible from the nearby city of Navoi and is part of the greater protection area designated under the national Ramsar Site including Zor-Kushur and surrounding habitats.
