Tavakõnede

Tavakõnede, a term originating from Estonian, refers to standard or regular telephone calls. It distinguishes voice communications made over traditional telephone lines from other forms of telecommunication such as video calls, instant messaging, or data transmissions. Historically, tavakõnede were the primary method of remote voice communication, relying on circuit-switched networks to establish a direct connection between two parties. This technology ensured a dedicated channel for the duration of the call, providing relatively high-quality audio without interruption from other network traffic.

With the advent of Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and mobile telephony, the distinction between tavakõnede and newer forms of communication has become more pronounced. While traditional phone calls still operate on circuit-switched infrastructure, VoIP services transmit voice data over the internet, often offering lower costs and additional features.
