They can shed the pathogen through respiratory droplets, bodily fluids, or direct contact. Finally, contaminated inanimate objects, or fomites, can act as transmission sources. This includes surfaces like doorknobs, telephones, or medical equipment that have been touched by an infected person and then by a susceptible individual.
