Tarrakiinnityksillä

Tarrakiinnityksillä refers to adhesive fasteners, commonly known as Velcro or hook-and-loop fasteners, in Finnish. These are a system of two components, a hook side and a loop side, that attach when pressed together. The hook side consists of stiff, hooked fibers, while the loop side is made of softer, matted fibers. When the two sides are brought into contact, the hooks catch in the loops, creating a strong, temporary bond.

The technology was invented by Swiss engineer George de Mestral in the 1940s. He was inspired by burrs that stuck to his dog's fur and his own trousers after a walk in the woods. Observing the microscopic hooks on the burrs, he developed a synthetic equivalent.

Tarrakiinnityksillä have a wide range of applications due to their ease of use and reusability. They are commonly found in clothing, footwear, and accessories, allowing for adjustable and secure closures. In the medical field, they are used in bandages, braces, and prosthetic devices.
