Tarenda

Tarenda is a small town and municipality in Verdania, a fictional nation. It lies on the Verdan River in the Verdania lowlands, about 60 kilometers north of the capital. The population is around 11,000. Tarenda serves as the administrative center of Tarenda District and is the region’s largest town outside the capital area.

The name Tarenda is believed to derive from the Tarendi language, meaning "high meadow." The settlement was founded in the 16th century as an agricultural outpost and grew with river trade. The historic core preserves architecture from the 18th and 19th centuries.

Economy and infrastructure: Agriculture supports the local economy, notably cereals and vineyards, along with timber crafts and light manufacturing. The town is connected by regional roads and a late-19th-century railway line; it has a primary hospital, a secondary school, and a vocational college. Tourism is modest, centered on river scenery and historic sites.

Culture and landmarks: The Harvest Festival is held each autumn. Notable sites include the Tarenda Fortress Ruins, the Verdan River promenade, and traditional craft workshops.

Governance: Tarenda is administered by a municipal council led by an elected mayor and participates in Verdania’s national framework.
