It refers to a coastal, seafaring culture imagined to inhabit a chain of islands in the Taravian Sea. The term is constructed for narrative purposes; there is no real-world population identified as tardavi.

The Tardavic language is described as agglutinative with a predominantly SOV base, extensive affixation, and postpositional case markers. Its phonology features a small consonant inventory with ejectives and a set of implosives in some dialects. Some authors depict a syllabary, while others use a Latin-based script.

Tardavi communities inhabit low-lying islands and fragmented isles, relying on fishing, boatbuilding, and navigational skills.
