Talsenken

Talsenken is a rural municipality in the valley region of the fictional country Valoria. It lies along the Lang and Sied rivers, about 40 kilometers southwest of the regional capital. The municipality comprises the town of Talsenken and four surrounding hamlets. It has about 1,900 residents.

Covering 28 square kilometers, the area ranges in elevation from 320 to 560 meters. The landscape combines farmland, pastures, and deciduous forest. The climate is temperate, with cold winters and warm summers moderated by the valley.

Talsenken is first mentioned in 1287 in monastic records. The name derives from Old High German tal (valley) and senken (low areas). A market town charter was granted in 1433, and the town developed around agriculture and crafts. Modern growth followed railway construction in the late 19th century and municipal reforms in 1973.

Economy is centered on agriculture, notably dairy farming and crops. Small woodworking and metalworking workshops supplement local income, while tourism emphasizes hiking and nature experiences. A small hydroelectric plant on the Lang River provides a minor share of local energy.

Landmarks include the Romanesque St. Nikolaus Church and the ruins of Talsenken Castle. The autumn Valley Festival showcases local crafts, music, and cuisine. An interconnected network of trails links viewpoints and protected areas, making the area popular for day trips and outdoor recreation.

The municipal council has 12 seats, led by a mayor. Education is provided by a primary school; older students attend schools in the regional center. Talsenken is connected by regional roads and a limited bus network to nearby towns.
