Talpur

Talpur refers to a dynasty of Baloch rulers who established a significant dominion in Sindh, in what is now Pakistan. The Talpur dynasty rose to prominence in the late 18th century, overthrowing the local Mughal governor and establishing their own rule. Their reign is often divided into three main branches: the rulers of Upper Sindh (Khairpur), Lower Sindh (Hyderabad), and the smaller branch of Mirpur Mathelo.

The Talpur Mirs, as they were known, governed Sindh for several decades. Their rule was characterized by a degree of administrative organization and patronage of culture and religion. They were known for their military prowess and their ability to maintain control over the vast territory of Sindh. However, their reign also coincided with the growing influence of the British East India Company.

Internal divisions and external pressures eventually led to the decline of the Talpur rule. The British, seeking to expand their territorial control and secure trade routes, engaged in a series of conflicts with the Talpurs. The most decisive of these was the Battle of Miani in 1843, which led to the annexation of Sindh by the British. Following this, the Talpur rulers were largely deposed or exiled, marking the end of their independent dominion, though some descendants continued to hold positions of influence under British rule.
