The term combines talent with metrology, signaling an attempt to define a unit or index that could compare an individual's potential across domains. In practice, tallentimet would be an aggregate score derived from multiple indicators, including cognitive abilities, domain-specific aptitude, creativity, motivation, resilience, and access to opportunities.

As a thought experiment, tallentimet is widely used to explore how policies, education, or organizational design might cultivate talent, or to illustrate interactions among biological, environmental, and social factors.
