Talajprofiling
Talajprofiling, or soil profiling, is the systematic examination and description of the vertical arrangement of soil horizons in a soil profile. The process aims to reveal the properties that influence soil behavior, fertility, drainage, and suitability for land use. A profile typically includes horizons designated by letters such as O, A, E, B, C and R, with each horizon exhibiting characteristic color, texture, structure, consistency, density, and moisture regime. Information from profiling supports soil classification, land evaluation, and management decisions.
In the field, practitioners excavate a pit or use monoliths to observe horizon boundaries and layering. They
Applications of talajprofiling include creating soil descriptions for land-use planning, agricultural suitability assessments, irrigation and drainage
Limitations include spatial variability within a landscape, temporal changes in moisture and rooting, and potential disturbance
