Takhisis

Takhisis, commonly known as the Dragon Queen, is a major deity in the Dragonlance campaign setting for Dungeons & Dragons. She is the chief goddess of evil dragons and the leader of the Dark Pantheon, serving as the principal antagonist in many Krynn-focused stories. In the Dragonlance cosmology, she stands as the counterpart to Paladine, the chief deity of good, and is associated with night, tyranny, conquest, and the power of dragons.

Her portfolios include night, hatred, tyranny, and dragonkind, with mortal worshipers and dragon-related cults seeking power through domination and conquest. Her symbols and depictions vary, but she is often shown as a regal, imposing woman or in dragon form, sometimes wearing dark robes or regalia that emphasize authority and menace. Clergy and dragonlords devoted to Takhisis aim to awaken and command dragons, subjugate others, and spread fear and control across Krynn.

Temples and cults devoted to Takhisis are found across Krynn, especially in periods of crisis when her influence can surge. Her followers may include powerful warlords, necromancer-adepts, and those who aspire to rule through autocratic power and the domination of dragonkind.

Historically, Takhisis plays a central role in Krynn’s major conflicts. She led the Dragonarmies that invaded Ansalon during the War of the Lance, challenging the forces of good and shaping the era’s political and military history. Her influence has waxed and waned in later eras and storylines, including narratives where she seeks to reclaim power or influence from rivals among the gods and mortals.
