Taketomi

Taketomi is a small island located in the Yaeyama Islands archipelago, part of Okinawa Prefecture, Japan. It is situated a short distance from Ishigaki Island, making it a popular destination for day trips and overnight stays. The island is renowned for its exceptionally beautiful beaches with pristine white sand and crystal-clear turquoise waters. Kaiji Beach, also known as "Star Sand Beach," is particularly famous for its tiny, star-shaped grains of sand, which are actually the exoskeletons of a type of marine microorganism.

The interior of Taketomi is characterized by a traditional Okinawan village, which has been remarkably well-preserved. The village features charming houses with red-tiled roofs, stone walls, and vibrant hibiscus flowers. Water buffalo cart rides are a quintessential Taketomi experience, offering a leisurely way to explore the village and its surroundings while enjoying local folk songs.
