Tailleur is a French term for a tailor, a craftsman who designs, cuts, and sews clothing to fit individual measurements. The profession covers repairs, alterations, and bespoke garment construction, with a traditional emphasis on suits and jackets. In common usage, un tailleur also refers to a woman’s tailored suit, a coordinated outfit that typically includes a jacket and a skirt or trousers.

Historically, tailoring has deep roots in Europe. Guilds and workshops developed in the medieval and early modern periods, formalizing measurement, cutting, and assembly techniques. In the 18th and 19th centuries, specialized tailors built reputations for precision and fit.
