Tacvba

Tacvba, often written Café Tacvba or Tacvba, is a Mexican rock band formed in 1989 in Ciudad Satélite, a locality in the State of Mexico near Mexico City. The group’s lineup has included Rubén Albarrán, Emmanuel “Meme” del Real, Joselo Rangel, and Quique Rangel. The name Tacvba is a stylized spelling used by the band, which is commonly referred to simply as Tacvba.

Tacvba is known for blending rock with traditional Mexican music and a wide range of Latin genres, including folk, bolero, norteño, and cumbia, among others. Their music often features experimental arrangements and a diverse sonic palette, contributing to a distinctive, boundary-pushing approach within Spanish-language rock.

Formed by friends and musicians from the Mexico City area, the band released its self-titled debut album in 1992, establishing a national presence. They followed with critically acclaimed works such as the 1994 album Re, which expanded their international profile, and the 2003 album Cuatro Caminos, which signaled a return to a more rock-oriented sound. Their discography encompasses a broad mix of originals and reinterpretations, reflecting their inclusive and explorative approach to music.

Café Tacvba has received extensive critical praise and numerous awards, underscoring their status as one of the most influential acts in Latin American rock. They continue to perform and record, maintaining a reputation for artistic experimentation and a commitment to Spanish-language creativity.
