Tachysystoleen refers to a condition characterized by an excessively rapid and frequent contraction of the uterus. This term is most commonly used in the context of pregnancy and childbirth. In a healthy labor, uterine contractions help to dilate the cervix and push the baby through the birth canal. These contractions typically occur at regular intervals and have a specific duration and intensity.

However, in tachysystoleen, the uterus contracts too often, sometimes with multiple contractions occurring within a short period or with insufficient rest between contractions. This can lead to a variety of complications. For the fetus, tachysystoleen can reduce the flow of oxygenated blood from the placenta, potentially causing distress. For the mother, it can increase the risk of uterine rupture or lead to a failure of the labor to progress effectively.

The causes of tachysystoleen are not always clear, but it can sometimes be associated with the use of labor-inducing medications such as oxytocin. It can also occur spontaneously. Diagnosis is usually made by monitoring uterine contractions, often using an external tocograph or internal monitoring during labor. Management strategies depend on the severity and cause, and may include adjusting or discontinuing medications, or other medical interventions to support the well-being of both mother and baby.
