TSHmittaus refers to the measurement of Thyroid-Stimulating Hormone (TSH) in the blood. TSH is a hormone produced by the pituitary gland in the brain, which plays a crucial role in regulating the thyroid gland's function. The thyroid gland, located in the neck, produces thyroid hormones that control metabolism, energy levels, and many other bodily functions.

A TSH test is commonly used as the initial screening tool for thyroid disorders, including hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid) and hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid). When thyroid hormone levels are low, the pituitary gland releases more TSH to stimulate the thyroid. Conversely, when thyroid hormone levels are high, the pituitary gland releases less TSH. Therefore, abnormal TSH levels can indicate a problem with the thyroid gland or the pituitary gland.

The TSH test is a simple blood test. A small sample of blood is drawn from a vein, usually in the arm, and sent to a laboratory for analysis. The results are typically available within a few days. A healthcare provider will interpret the TSH levels in conjunction with other clinical information and possibly other thyroid hormone tests to diagnose or monitor thyroid conditions.
