TRVventiilid

TRVventiilid, or thermostatic radiator valves, are devices fitted to radiators in hydronic heating systems to regulate heat output based on room temperature. Their main purpose is to keep individual rooms at a chosen comfort level while helping to save energy by preventing overheating.

A TRV consists of a valve body that attaches to the radiator inlet and a thermostatic head that senses ambient air temperature. Inside a wax- or liquid-filled element expands or contracts with temperature changes, moving a spindle that modulates the flow of hot water through the valve. As the room warms, the valve closes to reduce heat; as it cools, it opens to increase heat. Many variants exist, from simple mechanical dials to programmable and smart models that can be controlled remotely or via apps.

Common types include: basic mechanical TRVs with a fixed dial setting, programmable or wireless TRVs that adjust timings and setpoints, and smart TRVs that integrate with home automation systems. Some heads offer frost protection, boost modes, or override options to ensure comfort during cold snaps.

Installation and compatibility considerations include standard sizing and threading. Most EU TRVs use a standard M30 x 1.5 thread to fit the radiator valve body, but some radiators may require different sizes. When replacing or installing TRVs, it is often advisable to balance the system by adjusting the opposite lockshield valve to ensure even heat distribution across radiators.
