Südamikat

Südamikat is a type of Edible Mushroom found in the forests of Estonia. The scientific classification for these mushrooms is as follows: Order Boletales, Family Boletaceae, Genus Suillus.

Südamikat mushrooms are known for their brown cap, typically measuring between 4 to 9 centimeters in diameter. The cap's margin is often wavy and is a moderately lightweight, thin flesh. The stipe, or stem, is usually uniform in color, cylindrical, and tapers downwards. In terms of coloration, the cap features more radial veins that are close together, compared to other suillus species.

Südamikat mushrooms tend to grow in groups under pine or spruce trees, often on richer soil. They can be found on their own or in clusters, typically sprouting from fallen branches or trunks alongside the tree trunk.

Regarding their Edibility, Südamikat mushrooms are generally considered edible. However, like most types of fungi, there's a potential for allergic reactions or a pre-existing sensitivity. Individuals who are uncertain or new to foraging should seek the guidance of an experienced forager.

Some species of the Genus Suillus can be toxic, causing gastrointestinal disturbances, allergic reactions, and may even lead to a more severe reaction - poisoning.
