Sõidurajahoidja

Sõidurajahoidja, also known as lane keeping assist or LKA, is a driver assistance system designed to help prevent unintentional lane departures. It utilizes cameras, radar, or lasers to detect lane markings on the road. When the system identifies that the vehicle is drifting out of its lane without the turn signal being activated, it can intervene.

The intervention can take several forms. Most commonly, the sõidurajahoidja will provide a haptic warning, such as a vibration in the steering wheel, to alert the driver. In more advanced systems, it can actively steer the vehicle back into the lane. Some systems offer a combination of both visual and auditory warnings along with steering assistance.

Sõidurajahoidjad are typically activated by the driver and can often be adjusted for sensitivity or turned off entirely. They are designed to work at certain speed thresholds and under specific road conditions, such as clearly visible lane markings. The primary goal of a sõidurajahoidja is to enhance safety by reducing the risk of accidents caused by driver inattention or fatigue leading to lane drift.

It is important to note that sõidurajahoidjad are assistance systems and do not replace the driver's responsibility to maintain control of the vehicle. Drivers should always remain attentive and be prepared to take manual control of the steering wheel. The effectiveness of the system can be influenced by factors like weather conditions, road surface, and the clarity of lane markings.
