Sósíalfræði

Sósíalfræði is the Icelandic term for sociology, the academic discipline that studies society, patterns of social relationships, social interaction, and culture. It employs various methods of empirical investigation and critical analysis to develop a body of knowledge about social order and social change. Sociologists analyze the structure of groups, organizations, and societies, and how people interact within these contexts. Key areas of study include social stratification, social class, social mobility, religion, secularization, law, sexuality, gender, and deviance. The discipline is a broad and diverse field, with many sub-disciplines and theoretical perspectives. It aims to understand how human behavior is shaped by social forces and how societies function and evolve over time. Sósíalfræði seeks to explain the causes and consequences of human behavior in the social world.
