Säärisuojat

Säärisuojat are protective devices worn on the front of the lower leg to shield the tibia and surrounding tissue from impacts. They are commonly used in sports such as football (soccer), field hockey, ice hockey, cricket and certain martial arts, where kicks, collisions or ball strikes can cause injuries to the shin.

Most säärisuojat consist of a hard outer shell and an inner layer of padding. The outer shell is typically made from plastic (such as PVC, polypropylene or other composites) or lightweight carbon fiber in higher-end models. The inner foam padding absorbs shock, and a fabric sleeve or straps keeps the guard in place. Some designs include additional ankle protection or more integrated protection, while others rely on a simple sleeve with a separate shield.

Fit and sizing vary by sport and player. Guards are usually sized by shin length and should cover most of the shin from just below the knee to above the ankle, without restricting movement. They are secured with elastic sleeves and/or Velcro straps, and in many sports must be worn under the outer sock or uniform to remain in place during play.

Care and maintenance are straightforward: rinse or wipe off dirt, air dry away from heat, and inspect for cracks or loosened fittings. Replace guards that show significant wear or damage.
