Common types of electrical connections include screw terminals, crimp connectors, wire nuts, and soldering. Screw terminals are often found in junction boxes and electrical devices, where a screw is tightened to clamp the conductor. Crimp connectors are used by inserting a stripped wire into a metal sleeve and then compressing the sleeve with a specialized tool, creating a permanent bond. Wire nuts are plastic caps with internal threads that twist onto the ends of two or more wires, joining them together. Soldering involves melting a filler metal (solder) into the gap between conductors, forming a strong and conductive joint, though it is less common in general building wiring due to its labor-intensive nature and potential for heat damage.

Poorly made connections can lead to increased resistance, generating heat that can cause insulation to melt, leading to short circuits, fires, or equipment failure.
