Szabadalmát

Szabadalmát is the definite possessive form of the Hungarian noun szabadalom, meaning "patent." In Hungarian, szabadalom denotes a government-granted legal monopoly that gives the owner exclusive rights to exploit an invention for a limited period, typically to exclude others from making, using, selling, or importing the invention without permission. National patent rights in Hungary are governed by the relevant patent law, and national patents are issued by the Szellemi Tulajdon Nemzeti Hivatala (SZTNH). The standard term of protection is 20 years from the filing date, subject to the payment of maintenance fees and timely disclosures as required. Ownership of a patent may be held by the inventor(s) or be assigned to an employer or other entity, and rights can be licensed or transferred.

The term szabadalmát functions as a possessive construction with a definite direct object marker, translating roughly as "his/her patent" in English, as in Megvédte szabadalmát ("He defended his patent") or Bejelentette szabadalmát ("He announced his patent"). The form changes to match person and definiteness, for example a szabadalma ("his patent") and a szabadalmát ("his patent" as a definite object). In legal disputes, reference to szabadalmát emphasizes ownership and the scope of the exclusive rights.

Internationally, patent rights may be sought via national filings or through the European Patent Office (EPO) for European patents. Hungary is a party to the European Patent Convention, and a national patent grants protection within Hungary.
