Syväpainolevyjen

Syväpainolevyjen, also known as gravure cylinders, are specialized printing plates used in the gravure printing process. Gravure printing is a high-quality intaglio printing method where the image is etched or engraved into the surface of a cylinder. These cylinders are typically made of metal, often steel, which is then coated with a layer of copper. The printing image is created by engraving or etching small cells or cells into this copper surface. The depth and size of these cells determine the amount of ink that can be held and transferred to the substrate, thereby controlling the tone and color density of the printed image.

The process of creating a syväpainolevy involves several steps. First, a design is transferred to the copper surface, often through a photographic or digital process. Then, the image is engraved or etched into the copper. In traditional methods, this was done mechanically with a diamond stylus controlled by a pantograph. Modern gravure cylinder production largely utilizes electronic engraving, where a diamond stylus is directly controlled by digital data, allowing for greater precision and speed. After engraving, the cylinder is often chrome-plated to increase its durability and ensure a longer print run. During the printing process, the recessed cells are filled with ink, excess ink is wiped from the surface by a doctor blade, and then the ink from the cells is transferred to the paper or other substrate under pressure. Syväpainolevyjen are known for their ability to produce consistent and high-quality prints, especially for long runs and for applications requiring fine detail and rich color saturation.
