Systeemwijd

Systeemwijd refers to an attribute, action, or scope that spans the entire system rather than a subset. In Dutch IT and governance contexts, it denotes applying uniformly across all components, subsystems, devices, or layers of a system. The term is typically used in discussions of configuration management, security, monitoring, and policy enforcement, where changes or rules are intended to have a global effect rather than being limited to a single application or host.

In technology, examples include systeemwijd patching (applying security updates to all nodes), systeemwijd logging (centralized, uniform logging across components), or een systeemwijd passwordbeleid (a policy governing passwords across the whole IT environment). In governance contexts, it can refer to procedures, risk controls, or compliance requirements implemented across the entire information system.

Benefits of systeemwijd approaches include consistency, easier administration, and uniform security posture. Challenges include managing interdependencies, ensuring compatibility among diverse components, and avoiding unintended consequences that affect the whole system. Implementation often requires centralized tooling, standardized interfaces, and clear change management processes.
