Sveitarfélög
Sveitarfélög are the local administrative units that form the lowest tier of government in Iceland. They are responsible for delivering many services directly to residents and for managing local planning and development. Each sveitarfélag is governed by a municipal council (sveitarráð or bæjarstjórn, depending on the area) elected by residents in municipal elections held every four years.
