Sveisehastighet, or welding speed, refers to the rate at which a welding operation progresses along a joint. It is a critical parameter in welding processes that directly impacts productivity, weld quality, and cost. The optimal welding speed is influenced by several factors, including the welding process being used (e.g., TIG, MIG/MAG, submerged arc welding), the type and thickness of the base metal, the joint design, the amount of heat input required, and the desired penetration depth.

Too high a welding speed can lead to incomplete fusion, insufficient penetration, porosity, and a narrow, often convex weld bead. This can result in a weaker joint that may fail under stress. Conversely, too low a welding speed can cause excessive heat input, leading to weld metal dilution, distortion of the base metal, burn-through (especially on thinner materials), and a wider, potentially undercut weld bead.

Maintaining a consistent and appropriate welding speed is essential for achieving sound welds with the desired mechanical properties. Welders often adjust their travel speed based on visual cues, such as the appearance of the molten weld pool and the solidified weld bead, as well as by following recommended parameters provided by welding equipment manufacturers or established welding procedures. In automated welding, the speed is precisely controlled by the machine. Monitoring and controlling sveisehastighet is therefore a fundamental aspect of quality welding practice.
