The name "suurentuneille" translates roughly to "large concertina" in English, though it is often simply called a *kantele-concertina* or *kantelepuhallin* (kantele-blower) due to its association with the kantele, another iconic Finnish string instrument.

The suurentuneille typically features two sets of buttons arranged in angular rows, allowing for a wide range of melodic and harmonic possibilities. It is played by compressing and expanding the instrument’s bellows while pressing buttons to produce notes. The design often includes a diatonic layout, which simplifies playing in specific keys but limits versatility compared to chromatic instruments.
