Suolistoflooran is a hypothetical concept in sustainable architecture and soil science describing the integration of soil-based processes within building flooring systems to influence indoor environmental conditions. The term combines suolo (soil) with floor and the suffix -an to denote a field of study.

Concept and scope: A suolistoflooran floor embeds a shallow soil layer or soil-like substrate between a subfloor and the finished surface, enabling limited root growth for small plants or moss, microbial activity, and moisture buffering. The arrangement aims to create a controlled exchange of moisture and gases between indoor spaces and adjacent outdoor soils, enhancing humidity regulation, thermal mass, and biophilic qualities.

Design and configurations: Common implementations use modular panels with a protected soil core, drainage layers, impermeable membranes, and a surface finish suitable for foot traffic. Sensor networks monitor soil moisture, temperature, and air quality to balance indoor climate.
