Suolakiteiset

Suolakiteiset are a Finnish concept referring to people who have chosen a salt-based food regimen, avoiding or minimizing the consumption of refined salt and instead using natural salts. The idea is to consume salt in its natural form, unrefined and unprocessed, and to avoid the high volume of added salt commonly found in processed foods.

The reasoning behind this approach is to regain the natural balance of minerals in the body, and to maintain better overall health. Proponents of suolakiteiset believe that unrefined salt provides essential minerals that are beneficial to the human body, and argue that refined salt is detrimental to our health due to its high sodium and preservative content.

Suolakiteiset are encouraged to use natural salts like sea salt, Himalayan pink salt and cosmetic clays, which are rich in minerals. They also attempt to eat whole foods, including fruits and vegetables, lean protein and whole grains, and avoid or minimize consumption of processed and artificial foods.

This diet is associated with Finns' efforts to alleviate symptoms of conditions like hypertension, hyperglycemia and mineral deficiencies by shifting towards a less processed, more natural way of eating and counterbalance the general high salt intake in the Finnish diet.
