Sukellusvälineet encompasses the various equipment used for underwater exploration and activities. The core of any scuba diving setup is the buoyancy control device (BCD), a vest that allows divers to control their buoyancy by inflating or deflating it. Attached to the BCD is the regulator, which reduces the high-pressure air from the tank to a breathable pressure. Air is supplied from a scuba tank, typically made of aluminum or steel, filled with compressed air.

A diving mask is essential for clear underwater vision, creating an air pocket in front of the eyes. Fins are worn on the feet to provide propulsion through the water. A wetsuit or drysuit provides thermal insulation, protecting the diver from cold water. Dive computers are increasingly common, monitoring depth, dive time, and calculating decompression stops. Other important accessories include a dive knife or cutting tool for emergencies, a submersible pressure gauge (SPG) to monitor air supply, and a depth gauge. For freediving, the equipment is simpler, often consisting of a mask, snorkel, and fins, with a dive suit for warmth. Snorkeling gear is even more basic, usually a mask, snorkel, and possibly fins.
