Sukellusmaski

Sukellusmaski, often referred to as a diving mask or swimming mask, is essential equipment for underwater activities. Its primary function is to create an air pocket in front of the wearer's eyes, allowing them to see clearly underwater. Without a mask, water would fill the space between the eyes and the underwater environment, distorting vision due to the difference in refractive index between air and water.

A typical sukellusmaski consists of a lens, a skirt, and a strap. The lens is usually made of tempered glass for safety, though some recreational masks may use plastic. The skirt, typically made of silicone or rubber, forms a watertight seal around the face, preventing water from entering the mask. The strap, adjustable and often elastic, secures the mask to the wearer's head.

Different types of sukellusmaski exist to suit various needs. Freediving masks tend to have a lower internal volume, making them easier to equalize pressure with as one descends. Scuba diving masks often have a larger field of vision. Snorkeling masks are generally simpler and designed for surface viewing. Some masks incorporate features like prescription lenses for individuals with vision impairments. Proper fit is crucial for comfort and to ensure a good seal, preventing leaks that can disrupt the underwater experience.
